As you know, I like this time of the year and look forward to buying my winter wardrobe. Once the nights start to draw in, my friends find themselves at a loose end, a lot of them organise great dinner parties. Then, of course, there are the Christmas parties and New Year celebrations, so I always think of winter as a party season and shop accordingly. Today’s post is all about party dress and shoe trends, for 2016.
Sparkly dresses
When I think about winter party dresses, something shiny comes to mind. It must have something to do with Christmas lights and tinsel. Regardless, if you want a sparkly dress, you will be spoilt for choice this year.
Quite a few designers have opted to add beads and sequins to their dresses, and lace is very popular. However, if want something more muted, there are still plenty of little black dresses available. They look great and are very versatile. It is easy to accessorise a black outfit, and you can dress it up or down.
It is nice to see retailers offering sleeveless and short-sleeved party dresses, at this time of the year. You can soon overheat if you are wearing a long sleeve outfit in a crowded room. Often, opting for a cooler dress, and investing in a light jacket or shawl is a better idea, so it ‘s nice to have a choice.
I put all of my maxi dresses away last month. However, I enjoyed wearing them this summer, so would love to continue to wear that style during the winter months. Fortunately, most retailers have included beautiful, soft and floaty maxi style party dresses in their winter collections, so I may get the chance to do exactly that.
Shiny shoes
Unsurprisingly, many of the party shoes that are available this year are also bright and sparkly. They look great whether they are paired with a plain black dress or a glittery one.
You can find high heels if you want them. They look glamorous and give your legs more shape, but many women find it impossible to dance in them, so I am pleased to see that there are plenty of mid-height shoes available.
Surprisingly, the majority of the shoes I saw in the shops are sandal style, which could be a bit cold if you have to walk a long way between the car and the party venue. If you are worried about keeping your feet warmer, there are some beautiful court shoes available in silver, gold and black.
The fact that Black Friday is now as big in the UK as it is in the US means that you can grab your party outfits for a bargain price. However, you have to be organised if you want to get your hands on the best deals. The nicest dresses, shoes and accessories are all going to go fast, so you need to be organised. If you know what you want in advance, get up early, open up the sales page and order what you want before the retailer runs out of a product!
