I have committed to having super long hair, and it can be hard to keep it looking healthy at the same time. I often am asked how I keep my hair long and thick, so thought is best to show some of my long hair care tricks to keeping my hair as healthy as possible.
My hair grew this long when I was a poor student, and then unpaid intern, £40 for a decent hair cut just wasn’t an option for me. So with a lack of haircuts, my hair kept on growing with just the occasional cheap trim. I started receiving compliments on the length, and now I just like having my hair long and keep on top of maintaining it. One day I might go drastic and cut it all off, but for now, it is here to stay.
Firstly for my long hair care, I reduce how often I wash my hair and my hair dryer use. In the past, I washed my hair every day which was drying my hair out and taking up too much of my life. I would have to dry it quickly either before bed or before leaving the house for work, and the heat was causing breakages. I now force myself to wash my hair more infrequently, and I think my hair is looking better for it.
As I don’t wash my hair as much, drying my hair is less of a hassle. I try to stay away from my hair dryer and instead I now use my Aquis Essentials Long Hair Towel Lisse Luxe as often as possible. I have a lot of hair; it is very thick and very long. Air drying time can be ridiculous. The Aquis Essentials Long Hair Towel Lisse Luxe has been specifically designed for drying hair gently. These absorbent towels come in sizes for short and long hair.
Made from Aquitex, the Aquis Essentials Long Hair Towel Lisse Luxe fabric has been woven from ultra-fine fibres to make the towel soft, to reduce breakages, frizz, blow dry time and be gentle on the hair.
The sheet is very long, thin and light weight so I can wrap my hair up onto my head while doing my makeup in the morning. With a regular towel, this can be rather heavy! The Aquis Essentials Long Hair Towel Lisse Luxe stays in place. My hair dries slightly quicker than with a regular towel but what I love is that it reduces frizz, has improved the texture of my hair, can wrap all of my hair, it is gentle on my hair, and it is lightweight and travel-friendly.
Another thing I do for long hair care and to maintain healthy hair is a lack of heat styling tools. I know I demonstrate hair heat styling tools on here and my Youtube channel, but I will only use these on odd occasions and not every day. I still like to style my hair and love to have it curled so my solution to this is Curlformers.
Curlformers are twisted plastic forms that hold damp hair in place throughout the night and in the morning can by removed for long lasting, perfect curls. I used to rag roll my hair as a child and while I loved the long lasting curls they were in no way perfect, particularly in the ends. Curlformers I have found to be the best overnight curlers for giving perfect hair curls that last all day. They do not take long to put in, aren’t too uncomfortable to sleep in and on my heavy hair manage all day staying power – with no damage or heat to my hair!
My only downside with Curlformers is that it can be hard to get hold of them and they are frequently out of stock, although Amazon often has them.
Finally in my long hair care tips is hair oil. This is something that is new to my beauty regime but it keeps the ends of my hair looking in far better condition. I am still exploring the options that work best for me when it comes to hair oils but two that I love are the Schwarzkopf got2b Oil-licious Weightless Dry Oil Mist 200ml and the Pantene Pro-V Repair & Protect Dry Oil with Vit-E 100ml.
I use the Pantene Pro-V on the ends of my hair whilst still wet which seems to help with breakages and stop my hair being as brittle or frizz prone. I use the Schwarzkopf got2b Oil-licious Weightless Dry Oil Mist on my hair inbetween washes. It is very light weight and helps keep my hair shiny and sleek without looking greasy. As I have naturally wavy hair it helps smooth away any fly away, frizzy stands.
I’m also a member of the long-tressed club! Though it can be cumbersome I do love having a full head of hair to swish about! Washing my hair as less frequently as possible and not using heat were big gamechangers for me, they improved its condition so much! I swear my hair oils also, so much so that I don’t even need to use conditioner anymore! I’m really intrigued by that Aquiss hair towel so going to look that up now. Do you have any tips in the way of brushes?
