Lisbon is a city bursting with flavour and culture, with its vegan food scene growing rapidly in recent years. If you’re looking for delicious Lisbon vegan dishes that don’t compromise on taste, these three spots will not disappoint. From light and healthy meals to indulgent treats, here’s a guide to my top vegan food recommendations in Lisbon, Portugal.
1. Honest Greens: Wholesome Salads, Coffee, and Desserts
Honest Greens is a haven for those seeking fresh, wholesome meals. Known for their commitment to using locally sourced and organic ingredients, this eatery is a fantastic spot to enjoy a healthy vegan meal. The menu features a variety of salads with a mix of vibrant vegetables, grains, and plant-based proteins – as well as a few options for those not following a plant based lifestyle. Whether you’re in the mood for a light lunch or a hearty dinner, Honest Greens has something for everyone.
Their coffee is also worth trying, offering a range of plant-based milk options to complement your favourite brew. And don’t forget to save room for dessert! Honest Greens has a selection of vegan desserts that will satisfy any sweet tooth.
2. Lisbon Vegan Nata: Traditional Pastry, Vegan Style
If you’re in Lisbon, you can’t miss out on the iconic pastel de nata. Vegan Nata puts a plant-based twist on this traditional pastry, offering a vegan version that we’ve been told is just as delicious as the original. For only €1.30 each, you can enjoy this creamy, custard-filled pastry with a perfectly crisp crust. It’s an affordable and delightful treat that embodies the essence of Lisbon’s pastry culture while catering to vegan dietary choices.
Stop by Vegan Nata for a quick snack, and be sure to grab a few extra for later. They’re perfect with a cup of coffee or tea and are sure to become a favourite. We took 4 to take away and our only regret was not picking up a few more!
3. Scoop n Dough: Lisbon Vegan Ice Cream, Donuts, Cookies, and Macarons
For those with a sweet tooth, Scoop n Dough is a must-visit. This dessert spot offers an array of vegan delights, from ice cream and donuts to cookies and macarons. The cookie and cream ice cream and raspberry biscuit were out scoops of choice, with rich, creamy flavours that make them irresistible. If you’re in the mood for a more indulgent treat, their Carob and Dulce de Leche flavoured donut is a perfect choice. It’s sweet, fluffy, and absolutely delicious – also available as takeaay if like us you have eyes bigger than your stomach!
Scoop n Dough’s macarons are also a popular item, but they tend to sell out quickly, so plan your visit accordingly. Even if you miss out on the macarons, as we did, the other treats on offer will more than make up for it.
The Lisbon vegan food scene is diverse and full of surprises. Whether you’re looking for a healthy salad, a traditional pastry with a vegan twist, or decadent desserts, these three spots have you covered. Next time you’re in Lisbon, be sure to give them a try!
