Our 1st Anniversary

A year ago Jon and I were married. Time has flown so quickly since. It is hard to believe that we are celebrating our 1st Anniversary and that it has been a whole year since we said our vows and celebrated with our friends and family. Such a happy, perfect day!

Jon and I have a rather unique marriage, we both work together running our business from home. We are with each other, alone and working most days of the week. It can be tough, working together and being married to each other, but I know I wouldn’t be able to have anyone else there by my side.

He’s my business partner but also my best friend. We haven’t had the easiest of years as a start to our marriage but it has certainly made us stronger for it!

Before our wedding we had marriage classes which for us were so helpful and have changed our relationship dynamic. Communication and listening were key elements in the marriage class discussions. Taking the time to have a walk with the dog and talk to each other, away from technology, each evening. Really listening to your partner, rather than trying to instantly solve their problem. Not that we are perfect but trying to remember these classes has helped us stay close.

Most importantly we laugh together so much. We have fun, we joke and we are very happy.

My thoughts on modern marriage in 2017 will be skewed as a married lady, but marriage to Jon for me hasn’t changed our relationship. My commitment to him hasn’t changed. As our priest shared on our wedding day, it is not about simply continuing on married. You have to work on your commitment and love everyday. We have had one fantastic first year and I can’t wait for the next!
